Ms. Oktoberfest 2002 - Deborah Ann Lee
Deborah Ann Lee said that her objective in competing in the Ms. Oktoberfest pageant was to have fun, and it did not take long to prove that she meant what she said. After being crowned Ms. Oktoberfest 2002 at the July 27 pageant held at the German-American Social Club, she joined in the dancing, demonstrating that she was already an old hand at doing not only the chicken dance, but also that she and husband Steve could join in with a polka or waltz as well.
The 23-year-old blonde, brown-eyed beauty says her interest in German heritage goes back to an early age. Both of her parents have German background and she was raised in a German culture in a town near Chicago. "I called my grandparents Oma and Opa and when we celebrated holidays they were in the German tradition," she said. "I learned to sing German songs from my grandparents." She also attended elementary school at a Lutheran school.
Singing and an interest in music in general became more than a holiday pastime for the vibrant Deborah Ann. She is an accomplished singer and plays a variety of instruments, including the trumpet, clarinet and piano. She is a 1997 graduate of Cypress Lake High School and is currently attending Florida Gulf Coast University where she expects to graduate with a degree in Elementary Education next year.
She has demonstrated her dedication to her future career by having already volunteered in the Lee County School System for over 100 hours and by working as a substitute teacher. She also volunteers her musical talents at her church.
In addition to the title, Ann was awarded a gift of jewelry from Zak.s Jewelers of Cape Coral and a dirndl, the traditional Bavarian dress, donated by Europa House of Port Charlotte.
" I want to have a good time, meet lots of people, partake of the wonderful food and be a good representative for the club," she said about her reign as Ms. Oktoberfest. If the dedication and enthusiasm she has displayed in her other endeavors are any indication, she is bound to carry out her role well. And if we.re lucky, we might catch a glimpse of her musical talents as well.
Attendees at Oktoberfest should look for Deborah Ann in her new dirndl adorned with blue sash on the grounds and in the big tent of the club grounds where she is certain to make everyone feel welcome.

Ms. Oktoberfest 2001 - Ann Fritsch
She is beautiful, intelligent and vibrant – Ms. Oktoberfest 2001. Currently residing in North Fort Myers, she originally hails from upper New York State. She loves her new home of Florida, and she loves Oktoberfest.
Ann Fritsch says she had attended several events at the German American Social Club prior to entering the pageant to select this year’s Ms. Oktoberfest. In fact, that is what prompted her to enter in the first place.
"I had such a good time, I felt so welcome that I wanted to be a part of all this," she said after being awarded the honor of representing the club at this year’s Oktoberfest and various subsequent events. The pageant was held on July 28th and included eight other contestants. "The members of this club always make me feel so at home. I feel so honored," she said.
In addition to the title, Ann was awarded a gift of jewelry from Zak’s Jewelers and a dirndl, the traditional Bavarian dress, donated by Europa House of Port Charlotte. A new and unexpected prize is a trip to the opening of the biggest and original Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany donated by Suncoast Moving & Storage, Inc. an agent for Mayflower Transit, Inc.
As she presides over the two weekends of festivities it is this feeling of being welcome and sense of belonging that she wants to convey to all those who attend. "I want to make people feel welcome, like they are part of this family too," Ann said.
The 29-year old holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Buffalo and a Master’s degree in Education from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. In 1998 she joined Mastercraft Homes where she is currently vice-president. She oversees much of the operation of the company, including construction and accounting responsibilities. She has been married four years.
Ann has lots of experience in dealing with the public, both at her current position and when she served as a liaison to the public at her university.
As she and her husband danced the night away after the pageant, she immediately showed her willingness to be a part of everything that goes on at the German-American Social Club. But she wasn’t quite sure about the polka. "I’ll have to have some lessons," the green-eyed brunette smiled.
Attendees at Oktoberfest should look for Ann in her dirndl and blue sash on the grounds and in the big tent where she is sure to make them feel welcome.

Ms. Oktoberfest 1994 - Susanne Stamer
What started out as a bet, turned out to become a treasured memory. I could never have seen myself in a pageant when my family and friends started pushing me to enter the Ms. Oktoberfest Pageant. I kept saying: “NO”, until George (Schroeder, my stepfather) told me he would come to the Oktoberfest in Lederhosen, if I agreed to run for Ms. Oktoberfest. I first burst out laughing at that thought, and then said: “YES”.
Even thought it all started as a joke, I was extremely proud to represent the German American Social Club and grateful for the opportunity to pass my heritage and traditions on to others.
My children enjoyed wearing their “Dirndls” and had a great time dancing the Chicken Dance to the music of the German band. Our Cape Coral Oktoberfest is lots of fun for the whole family.
My reign as Ms. Oktoberfest 1994 was a truly unforgettable and pleasant experience. The members of the German American Social Club treated me like a queen. Thank you again!
P.S. I did let George off the hook, when he seemed to be getting more and more nervous and then claimed to be having trouble finding Lederhosen in his size.
